Oakmont County Pea Gravel FAQ

Pea gravel can best be used in paths, patios, driveways and playgrounds. They are also commonly used in landscaping and gardening projects. They are often overlooked as mulch mixtures that are used in plants, but they are not.
Maintaining a pea gravel is relatively easy. You will just have to rake the surface every now and then to keep it clean and tidy. It may sink into the soil after some time, so it is recommended to replenish at every 3 to 4 years or when you notice that they visibly sink to the ground.
Removing the snow might be challenging but can be easy when you get used to it. You will just have to shovel the snow on top of it while leaving a thin layer. Make sure that you do not disturb the gravel beneath the snow. When all that is left are the thin layers, you may now melt it with salt.

Landscape Maintenance

Hannah B. Pittsburgh, PA

The road we are looking to build is an already existing fire trail that has been overgrown in the past approximately 40-50 years. The area will be cleared but a section of the already existing fire trail needs to have more than just re graveling but will also need to have a base put down as well so our new road doesn't just wash away. There are two creeks that will need to be crossed over in order to access the property for our proposed roadway. nI've heard of what is called 3/4 minus rock and how it is very good for driveway material because of its binding qualities similar to concrete. I'd like to see if this material is available and if not what material do you have that has similar qualities? nThe road length has been undetermined so far because of the overgrown proposed road path. nThe width of the road will be 12'.nAnd because some of the road needs a base put down before the gravel we will have to get some more measurements to determine total volume of materials needed. Which I'm hoping you'll be able to help with pricing for the project in mind.
