House is 30 years old, has baseboard electric heat. This project could include heating as well as cooling. It's a single story with a partially finished basement.

My heat pump outside unit has been shutting down during the hot part of the day. The inside blower stays on. If you cycle the thermostat off, wait few min and cycle on, the unit will resume normal operation for a few hours and if it is still hot outside will shut down again. It runs fine at night when it is able to catch up and kick off but I'm guessing when it has to run 6hrs continuous it has an issue. I wonder if the outside unit is overheating (low charge?)and a thermal cut out is shutting it down or maybe the fan is going bad and shutting down? Did not replace the thermostat as it 'seems' to be working.
