The building has a shared backyard area that has two levels that are currently connected by a 20 foot or so ramp way. The building's board of directors is looking for a broad estimate for what it would cost to add a staircase connecting the upper level (about 8 feet above ground level) to the lower level so that residents can access the upper level closer to a portion of the building. The area that a staircase would be contemplated is about 8 to ten feet wide and could be adjacent to the existing ramp. It would likely need to be about four feet wide and would likely need to be about 8 to ten steps in order to permit access with "ordinary" sized steps. We would appreciate getting a sense of basic costs, assuming nothing out of the ordinary. To the best of my knowledge, the area that the steps would be located is free of any drainage or other structural impediments.
