If your appliance keeps on tripping the circuit breaker, it should be immediately unplugged and repaired. If possible, and if the issue keeps on happening even after the repair, you need to consider purchasing a new appliance as a replacement. Same goes with any appliance that gives you electrical shock regardless of how mild it is. Have it checked or replace it before it causes further damage to your property and to you.

Electrical for Home Addition or Remodel

Dan O. Warren, MI

Want a cost estimate to install a ceiling fan in the bedroom. Currently, the light switch operates an outlet in the room, and I'd like it to run directly to the fan. It will be a remotely operated fan, so on/off is all that is needed. I will observe installation and provide the fan and mounting hardware. There is an access to the ceiling, so only a cut into where the fan will be is necessary, but I can prep the hole also.

House was built in the early 1900's with late 60's upgrades. The main floor is cotton clad wiering. All outlets are 3 prong but most of them are not grounded. The upstairs and attic may have knob and tube wiering.

the house is a cape cod built in 1948. we purchased the house from the original owners. much of the house, including a lot of the wiring, seems like it was a DIY project. we had major electrical work done back in 2002, but it was all relegated to the first floor and basement. we have lost all power to the second story. I have found what appears to be the junction box upstairs, but it is in a bad position to do any testing (from a non-professional). I can see the conduit runs to both rooms on either side of the junction box. I was able to crawl down one side of the crawl space to test (no power), but I am too big to go down the other side. right outside of the door to this crawl space is a switch. it appears to power off the room next to it. That probably needs to be removed...I'm not sure why it was placed there to begin with.
