Hardwood Floor

Kate K. Baker, LA

Our house was built in 1920. We've wanted to remove the carpet and have the floor refinished. With everything removed from the room due to a ceiling repair, we pulled up the carpet and discovered four places where there had been some terrible repairs. Room is 11'x14.6'.. Wood planks are narrow, 1.5 ". Oak?? There are four places that need to be repaired: one is 14"x14", and two areas where vents were installed when the house was converted to forced air. One area is 18.5"x14" with an opening approximately 7"x4"; the other is 15"x7" with an opening about 7"x4". A 4 inch tin can lid covers another hole. I can send photos if that would help. We're debating putting a new floor on top vs. getting the current floor repaired and refinished. We're looking at estimates and decided to look at repairs as well as putting in another floor.

We recently purchased a log home with around 1400? square feet of solid wood flooring. It desperately needs to be refinished and we are looking for a professional to come out and quote the job. We also have large dogs so we would like to go with a commercial seal or something that will hold up best to wear.
